Trinity Wall Street Church Chorus
TRINITY YOUTH CHORUS brings together talented youth ages 4 to 18 from the five boroughs of New York City. Choristers receive both group and individual training in vocal technique, music theory, sight-reading, and performance skills from a group of dedicated professionals led by Melissa Attebury, Trinity Church Wall Street’s Associate Director of Music.
The choristers provide musical leadership at Sunday services alongside The Choir of Trinity Wall Street and offer concerts throughout the season. The Trinity Youth Chorus has performed Schubert’s Mass in G and Vivaldi’s Gloria, as well as Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Children’s Crusade, The Golden Vanity, Friday Afternoons, and a fully staged production of Noye’s Fludde. Recent events included Ellen Reid’s Winter’s Child with the Prototype Festival, Ginastera’s Turbae ad Passionem Gregorianam at Carnegie Hall, and a performance with Bobby McFerrin as part of By the Waters of Babylon, a Trinity Church Wall Street festival celebrating the power of black music in America. In 2017 the choristers will perform and record Symphony #5 of Phillip Glass, tour to San Francisco to sing the Vivaldi Gloria in collaboration with the San Francisco Girls Chorus, and participate in the Mahler Symphony No. 8 at Carnegie Hall. Featured in the film Love is Strange and performed as part of Fashion Week 2014, the chorus was also heard in the 2008 film Doubt, starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffmann. The chorus has sung backup for Josh Groban and The Rolling Stones, and has been heard on Public Radio International, and CBS’s The Early Show.
The chorus is directed by Melissa Attebury, Associate Director of Music and the Arts and Anne Damassa Graff, Assistant Director, who is also a regular Canterbury Choral Society alto. Melissa Attebury is the Associate Director of Music at Trinity Wall Street and on the faculty of the Berkshire Choral Festival. She manages Trinity’s music outreach program in the public schools, serving over 300 school age children. Also at Trinity, she created and directs the chorister program; her choristers made their recorded debut on The Snow Lay on the Ground, carol settings of Julian Wachner, and on the Trevor Weston works. She has conducted performances of the choristers with Josh Groban, in the film Love is Strange, the US premiere of Seal Songs at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, and many events at Trinity Wall Street. In addition to conducting, Ms. Attebury is an accomplished soloist, has performed in major halls across the country and is featured on several recordings with Trinity Wall Street.
